The Cactus Series is a new body of work composed of sculptures and paintings, which represents parts of a world. This world is luxurious and real, and I have been indirectly depicting it all my artwork for a long time. I think of myself as a reporter instead of a creator. Some of the works in this series are records of an event, and some are landscapes in this world. For Cactus Series I am interested in focusing on two elements from the world- a cactus and a special nameless creature that only has a mouth. The creature does nothing but gather and search for food. The creature and the cactus are only two things in this world- the cactus is the only plant, and the creature is the only conscious being. Some paintings that are capturing a moment of movement in the world. They show the creatures that only have mouths as they are searching for and eating the cacti. They are desperate, and that moment of being out of control is what I am showing. The other paintings and the large sculptures are examples of the landscape. These are not in a ‘traditional’ landscape format; they are zoomed in views of the land. I represent the world through painting and sculpture because I want others to be able to experience this world as well. Since I used to have delusional mental disorders, for me, the world is real and luxuriant. I also use this work as a way to explore desire in this world. I’m not interested in any specific type of desire or any specific object of desire, instead I am interested in the feeling of being out of control with desire. Because the world is diverse with being in a constantly developing process, the works are developing and changing constantly.
